Braces or Invisalign? Which one should you choose

Braces and Invisalign are both orthodontic treatments designed to straighten teeth and improve bite alignment.      Conventional Dental Braces vs Invisalign — Valley Creek Dental Care

Appearance
Braces consist of visible metal brackets attached to the teeth, connected by wires. There are also ceramic braces available that blend in with the teeth to some extent but are still noticeable.
Invisalign uses clear, removable aligners that are almost invisible when worn.
Comfort
The metal brackets and wires of traditional braces tend to cause discomfort and irritation to teeth and cheeks.
Invisalign aligners are smooth and typically cause less irritation. Less discomfort – some experience slight soreness during the initial days of wearing a new set of aligners
Removability and oral hygiene
Braces are fixed onto the teeth and cannot be removed by the patient. Oral hygiene is more challenging to brush and floss. Additional tools such as interdental brushes, special orthodontic brushes, water flossers, floss threaders can assist with maintenance of proper oral hygiene.
Invisalign aligners are removable, allowing the wearer to take them out for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. Able to brush and floss as per normal. Able to clean aligners with not much difficulty as well.
Treatment Duration
Similar amount of treatment duration time, depending on your dental condition complexity

Adjustments
4-6 weekly dental visits. Regular adjustments are required to tighten the wires and make necessary changes to the treatment plan. Immediate bracket or wire adjustments if dislodged in order to maintain proper tension and alignment
6-12 weekly dental visits. Periodic check ups are necessary to check the fit of aligners on teeth and progression of treatment plan. The patient progresses through a series of custom-made aligners, changing them approximately every 7–10 days.
Cost
$3900 onwards
$3800-$7500 Depending on the complexity of the case
Treatment effectiveness
Able to address a wider range of orthodontic issues – severe misalignments, bite problems, and impacted cases. No compliance dependency from patient.
Effectiveness dependent on compliance of patient – relies on patient wearing the aligners as prescribed consistently.
Dietary restrictions
No hard or sticky foods. Cut foods into bite-sized pieces to reduce pressure on brackets
No dietary restrictions as able to remove aligners before eating and/or drinking.

Ultimately, the choice between braces and Invisalign depends on individual preferences, lifestyle, and the specific orthodontic needs of the patient. It is essential to consult with a dentist to determine the most suitable option for your particular case.
