Periodontal (gum) disease is a chronic infection of the supporting bone and tissues that hold your teeth in place. If left untreated, gum disease can lead to sore, bleeding gums, gum recession, loose teeth and eventual permanent tooth loss.
Mild gum disease is treated with regular scaling and polishing as well as good oral hygiene for maintenance.
Moderate-severe gum disease is treated with regular deep cleaning (also known as periodontal treatment or root planning), as well as good oral hygiene for maintenance.
